High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE)

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Tullibigeal Central School, High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE) is integrated into daily teaching and learning. We are dedicated to identifying and supporting students with high potential and gifted abilities, ensuring that every student has the chance to succeed and grow at our school.

  • Our classrooms provide a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that fosters a sense of belonging and encourages students to take risks, be creative, and work together.
  • Group arrangements are adaptable, allowing students to collaborate and present their work effectively.
  • Students engage in activities that offer choices and meaningful learning experiences, while developing critical and creative thinking skills.
Across our school

At Tullibigeal Central School, we acknowledge the individuality of each student and are dedicated to offering flexible and diverse opportunities that enable all students to explore and cultivate their strengths beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Leadership Development for All Students, Including Those with High Potential and Gifted Abilities
We actively encourage all students, including those identified as high potential and gifted, to assume meaningful leadership roles. Students have the opportunity to participate in our Student Representative Council, as well as to lead significant school and community events such as the ANZAC Day commemorations and assemblies. Furthermore, engagement with the local community is fostered through support of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) branch and involvement in notable events including the Tullibigeal Picnic Races. These leadership experiences serve to build confidence, responsibility, and a strong sense of community connection.

Recognition and Extension of Artistic Talents
Our school takes pride in celebrating and nurturing artistic talents through a variety of platforms. Each year, students perform at our Presentation Day and contribute to the Lake Cargelligo local show. We are pleased to offer the “Creative Connections” program, tailored for students from Stage 2 to Stage 5 who demonstrate a keen interest in visual and creative arts. This initiative comprises artist-led workshops held twice per term, wherein students collaboratively produce meaningful artworks that reflect both individual creativity and collective expression.

Curriculum Enrichment with a Focus on Practical Skills
To strengthen the link between academic learning and practical application, we provide curriculum enrichment opportunities in collaboration with TAFE. These programs enable students to develop competencies that are work-ready and aligned with their personal interests and strengths, thus paving the way for future vocational pathways.

Fostering Aspiring Writers
Students with a demonstrated interest in writing are invited to participate in a distinctive program in which they conceptualise, author, and illustrate their own picture book. This immersive experience culminates in the publication of their work, fostering creativity, narrative skills, and a lifelong appreciation for literature.

Across NSW

Across NSW
Beyond the school environment, students benefit from participation in a variety of statewide programs and competitions that further support their growth and achievement.

  • The school maintains a strong emphasis on sporting participation, encouraging involvement in numerous competitions including gala days, knockout tournaments, and progression opportunities to zone, regional, and state carnivals.
  • Selected students engage in ICAS assessments across various disciplines, including English, Writing, Mathematics, Digital Technologies, and Science, providing opportunities for academic challenge and recognition.
  • Additionally, students who demonstrate exceptional talents in areas beyond the scope of offerings at Tullibigeal Central School receive support to participate in statewide competitions and events.
